William Boylan in Paterson New Jersey.
« on: Thursday 22 November 18 11:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for details on any census for  William Boylan, birth, where born,
my grandson-in-law thinks he is connected to William.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

1891
Boylan Bottling’s story starts in 1891, when a pharmacist named William Boylan created an elixir in his Paterson, New Jersey, apothecary. He named that serum, a derivative of birch trees, Boylan’s Birch, and began selling individual cups from a barrel in the back of a wagon.

1900 – 1970s
William Boylan began bottling his birch beer after partnering with John W. Sturr, a local politician, in 1900. The partnership soon fizzled, but Boylan continued bottling his product until Prohibition in the 1920s, when Boylan was primarily sold in unused beer barrels.

I couldn't find him on the censuses for 1880 to 1940 in Paterson. I don't know if he was indexed incorrectly, unlikely for all 5 censuses, or what happened. Maybe he lived elsewhere? And all I find when I Google him is 100 websites with the same text about starting the company, etc.

How far back has your grandson-in-law reliably traced his family? Do you have anyone deceased who lived in Paterson at the time? Maybe you could approach the problem from that direction.

:-\ maybe not him - he is in the same occupation in 1930

1920 - barman in Saloon

Now I think his father was John who might be  a mineral water manufacturer

Perhaps it is him?

The William Boylan we want was old enough in 1891 to be a pharmacist, =apothecary, I think, in the UK.

Yes, I realise that but at first I thought that William J might be the son of William.
However, he is not but his father John seems to be loosely connected to the trade so I thought I would post it for reference/elimination purposes.
Maybe part of the wider Boylan family perhaps.
It is the right area.

Yes, this is starting to look like the right family. Maybe both father and son were William John?
