Hi Monica
Just seen your message about Elizabeth being previously married to a Henry Sutherland.
Think that just confuses me more, lol...

But very interesting, I wonder if he died and what happened to those four children. I don't suppose it states her parents names on the banns does it?
Yes it could possibly be her in 1861
Thanks for the link for FreeCen, I will have a search through it

Just noticed on the 1841 census there is a Hanah McLachlan age 20 and a Henry McLachlan living with Elizabeth too... So that could be her daughter to Henry Sutherland

Could well be! Will help you in connecting both her potential families.

Looks more than likely with these banns/marriage:

Hi,

I've posted before about Robert Ferguson from Greenock, but now I'm totally confused in attempting to located details of his death.

He was married to Elizabeth McCallum who died in 1868 and on her death certificate it states that she's a widow of Robert (shoemaker).

On his son Roberts death certificate 1866 it states his father Robert (shoemaker) is deceased and his mother Elizabeth McCallum is deceased?!!

I have found two death certificates on Scotlandspeople for Robert Ferguson in Greenock;
First one  is for 1869 aged 76 and a sugar refinery, widow of … Miller? Father Robert (shoemaker)
(Is this another son of his called Robert?? But his mum is called Isabella Campbell).

Second is for 1874 aged 72 and a shoemaker, widow of Elizabeth Mitchell, Mary Blair and Elizabeth Buchanan. His father is Daniel a farmer and mother is Janet McConnochie.

Obviously both those deaths are after the date he was supposed to have died and there is no mention of Elizabeth McCallum, so would I have to look further afield in Renfrewshire?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Richard McGrorey

Not with the family in 1841 or 1851.
I've searched deaths from 1830 to 1880 but can't see any matches other than the two I've mentioned...

Is the 1866 certificate maybe badly written or mistranscribed.  Also who was the named person on certificate as it might have been someone that didn't know his parents and just guessed
Ferguson (st fillans, comrie)
Garnock (lothian, fife)
Valet (london, switzerland)
Butcher (ramsgate, glasgow)
Blackbird (durham,  newcastle)
Barr (ayrshire, ireland)
Fleming (paisley)
Crone, croney ,(dumfriesshire, ireland)
