I need to find my ggg grandfather John Morrison.
I have a Gaelic Bible belonging to his son Hector Morrison. In it Hector lists his children's christenings on the flyleaf. Hector Morrison was born in Newtown of Ferintosh, and his birth entry for 20 Feb 1811 reads -
"Morrison: Hector Urquhart son of John Morrison and of his wife Isobel Gollan in Newtown"I think that the Urquhart is a mistake by the minister. HM did not write a middle name in his Bible, the next baby baptised had the surname Urquhart, and the parish is called Urquhart"
I have found two candidates for John Morrison or Morison in the parish of Urquhart and Logie Wester
- 09/07/1774 John Morison, son of Norman Morison and Christian Chislom
- 14/07/1771 John Morrison, son of Duncan Morrison and Catherine Chislom
It may be a red herring, but the next name on the baptism roll is
- Roderick McLeod, son of John McLeod and Catherine Chislom
I have been in touch with someone whose late father-in-law thought it was the 1774 John Morrison, but I would welcome ideas on how to proceed.
Perhaps someone has researched the Chislom (Chisholm?) family?
Subsequently some of the family moved to Inverness and then Nairn.
I would be very grateful for suggestions.
