Parents of THOMAS WRIGHT (1776-1826), Northamptonshire
« on: Saturday 24 November 18 07:27 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Wright married Ann Barnard in 1800 at Northampton St. Sepulchre. The marriage record says he was from the parish of Kingsthorpe. Following Ann’s death in 1810 in Islip, he married Mary Barker in 1816 in Islip.

I thought his parents were Currer and Joanna Wright but now I’m not so sure. Thomas’s descendants in Islip appear to have been Romani or Travelers (settled in Islip) based on their occupations, marriages, and family lore.

Currer Wright’s ancestors were lords of the manor in Kildwick in the 16th-18th centuries, making it very doubtful they were Thomas Wright’s ancestors. Any help with would be appreciated!

What made you make the link to Currer Wright in Kildwick and not look for a baptism in the Northamptonshire / Oxfordshire area  :-\

I did look extensively for a link to Thomas Wright's parents in Northamptonshire but could not find a definitive link. I believe there were two possibilities but they didn't pan out.

I then looked closer at the Barnard/Wright marriage record and Thomas's connection to Kingsthorpe. I discovered Currer Wright of Northampton had a son named Thomas in 1776 and had several connections to nearby All Saints and St. Sepulchre (where Thomas married Ann Barnard in 1800).

Currer's baptism was in 1741 in Ilkley, Yorkshire. As I could not find a marriage certificate or any information on Currer's wife, Joanna, I posted a request for marriage information on this forum. No marriage record was found but one responder said that Currer Wright was likely connected to the Currers who were lords of the manor in Kildwick. When I traced Currer's ancestry, that was indeed correct. I hope this information helps.

Thank you, I just wondered why you had taken the leap from Northants to Yorkshire when Wright is quite a common surname

I think something is very wrong here.

On the 1800 Marriage of Thomas Wright to Ann Barnard they both signed.

The 1816 Marriage in Inslip Thomas Wright didnt sign his name.

I dont think the 2 Marriages are the same Thomas Wright.

At St Sepulchre Northampton there are baptisms for......

Samuel born Nov 26 1812
Susannah born Sept 27 1816
William born Dec 18 1818
Mary Ann  all four baptised on the same day on 11 Nov 1821 to Thomas Wright and his wife Ann of Hopes Place ...a shoemaker.

So looks like two different people as Trish said earlier.

Following Ann’s death in 1810 in Islip.

I've just been looking at Islip, and there's no Ann Wright buried in 1810?

The nearest is an Ann wife of Thomas in 1812 in Ringstead?

Yes I am very confused here.

What child of Thomas/Ann are you descended from prairiegypsy?
Name dob please.

I can find a John Bapt 1802 Inslip to a Thomas/Ann.
If I have him correctly in 1841/ 1851/1861 Census in 1851 he says he is born Ringstead.

The Ann buried 1812 Ringstead was age 38

Thos/Ann Bapt a ELIZABETH 8 Apr 1804 Ringstead also.

Did Thomas die 1826 Islip?

Is this Mary with Daug Fanny (Frances) in 1841 Census in islip?
George Richardson, 26
Fanny Richardson, 20
Mary Wright, 56
Francis Wright names her Father a Thomas, Labourer, on her 1840 M/C to George R
