Passenger Lists: Bristol <--> West Indies
« on: Saturday 24 November 18 07:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me track down passenger lists for ships travelling between Bristol and the West Indies between about 1835-1854? What were the common routes to St. Vincent from Bristol?

I'm looking specifically for a Thomas Abbott Parker and his family.
I know he was in St. Vincent by at least 1839, when his daughter Amelia Parker was born there. Amelia appears in the 1851 Census back in Bristol attending Miss Hasle's Establishment for Young Ladies but I can't find Thomas or his younger daughter Eliza Jane Parker (also born in St. Vincent about 1847) on the 1851 Census. Thomas, Amelia and Eliza all depart Plymouth in April 1854 for Australia.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers
Lee

There are no passenger lists departing from the UK until the 1890's.
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Yeah that's the tricky part I'm trying to get around...
What about West Indies arrival records? Or passengers returning to the UK? Or British subjects born overseas registering in UK? Does anything like that exist do you know?

ALL passenger lists, leaving and entering the UK were destroyed before they decided to start keeping them in 1890 ::)

A British Subject would not need to register ;D

You would need to enquire for St Vincent records - there may be some still there, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Why was he in St Vincent?
Possibly Bristol Merchant Venturers would have something - but don't think their records are online.
Records will be at Bristol Archives.

I still haven't found why he was in St Vincent but Bristol Merchant Venturers is a possibility - something to look into. Thanks
