John born 1848 emigrated to New York and died in Brooklyn in 1910  was related to a Cecily (or Cecelia) Doherty born about 1869, maybe named after her mother??

Thanks everybody for all that help. I can see that John & Cecily had a daughter Cecily born on 5 Aug 1871. So maybe she was his daughter.

He was related to a Cecily (or Cecelia) Doherty born about 1869, but not sure how. She also emigrated to Brooklyn and married an Edward Lafferty.....

So what information is there on marriage??
