Mr William Black of Kilby
« on: Saturday 24 November 18 19:17 GMT (UK) »
Looking for more info on William Black.
He marries a Frances sometime before 1662. He has a daughter named Katherine bapt 1662 Misterton and I believe one more daughter called Eliza. I can only see the baptism for Katherine and no other children nor can I find a marriage for him to Frances.

In Registers he is listed as 'Mr William Black' indicating he is of higher social status as a Gentleman. He dies in 1685 Kilby, Leicestershire.
His Inventory is quite substantial and certainly that of a Gentleman or Wealthy Yeoman but no occupation is given nor is there a Will.
His burial in the Kilby register is 'Mr Will Black was buried at Oubourne Dec 6' Where or what is Oubourne? I cant find it as a place?
I can also not find wife Frances's burial.

William is possibly the William who is bapt 1635 Misterton, Son of John Black.

Any help appreciated

The burial was at Woburn, Bedfordshire. The record for Kilby and Woburn give the same date - 6th December 1685. Perhaps he was acquainted with the Duke of Bedford.

Interesting, I wonder why he was buried there and not at Kilby where he lived?
He could have been in the Retinue of the Duke of Bedford but in what capacity, Im not sure.

His house at Kilby has 11 rooms including 4 Bedrooms, A Cheese Room, 2 Storage rooms, A Dairy Room, Great Parlour, Buttery Room and a Kitchen . Then listing large amounts of Cattle, Pigs, Sheep, Horses, Crops.

I don't think he would have been a Household Servant, Certainly not with a house this size or Inventory value.
Perhaps like you say he may have been acquainted with the Duke or had land there.
