George Cornelius Powers
« on: Sunday 25 November 18 18:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi, George Cornelius Powers from Yorkshire, then emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand after WW2. How can I find out where he was stationed or living in 1944? Any help appreciated, thank you. :)

Welcome to Rootschat

Is this his birth registration?

Births December qtr  1915
George C Powers mothers maiden name Winwood     Hemsworth    9c   268

2 possible marriages

March qtr 1936
Powers    George C   / Mary E  Terry    Dewsbury    9b   749
September qtr 1938
George C Powers/Irene Draper    Hinckley    7a   233

WW2 service records are still with the MoD - you don't give any info as to which of the forces he served with

You could look him up on the 1939 register to see where he was living at that time?  If you check the entry carefully it may answer your question.  Sorry - 1939 info of that nature cannot be given here

Yes, the details you gave are correct. Mary was my auntie, however the other married not him. He went missing shortly after their marriage and she finally divorced him, in the 1940's I believe. It says he committed adultery. But what i'm trying to trace is where he went, when he was missing. I believe he was perhaps in Scotland for a time. Thank you for your help. :)

I can tell you he was in Surrey in 1939 but you will have to look up the entry yourself for further info. As advised - the info we can give here from the 1939 register is limited to what is available on the free index.  Look particularly at the info on the far right hand side of the entry

The travel manifest for 1958 has him travelling with a Mrs Muriel Powers and children Janet(1945).John(1946) and Andrew(1955),the gap suggestive of a different mother?
Andrew's mmn is Payne and there is a 1950 marriage of George C Powers to Muriel Payne in Essex
This seems to be replicated as Muriel Dearmer.

Have to go now,back later
