Luke BAYCROFT (BEACROFT, BEECROFT), born 1830, Stockport, Cheshire
« on: Monday 26 November 18 13:51 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

The UK, Naval Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1972 records that Luke BEACROFT on the ship Blenheim was awarded the Baltic Medal for service 1845-1855.

Could someone kindly confirm whether or not that is the same person as the "Subject above and, if so, what other information is available.

Thank you and for the moment,

BAC3

The 1841 has Luke Beacroft age 10 (rounded off) born Cheshire (which perhaps you know).  There is a Merchant Navy listing for Luke Beacroft born Stockport in the time frame 1845-1854 (Findmypast), other spellings don't seem to come up anywhere.
Perhaps started as a merchant seaman and transferred to the Royal Navy?

Thank you MaxD,

Certainly you appear to have unearthed the correct person.   He departed Tasmania as an
ex-convict to London in January 1852 as a hand aboard the Lucy Thompson and your reference might refer to that instance.

However, my task now is to progress that situation but, sadly, my researching skills in relation to military/naval matters are virtually incompetent.......a result of age and too many "senior moments" :'( ???   Any advice you can offer beyond Ancestry and FindMyPast, where nil results are evident, would be more than welcome.

Again my thanks.

The reference is simply a listing of the names of merchant seamen, their register ticket and where they came from.  It is in a list covering the 1845 ish time frame.  You will find it on FindMyPast but in the Education and Work area not military.

His ticket number is 432850 which I know Seaweed will be able to advise what to do with!

Thank you for the advice MaxD.   I am very grateful and will now approach "seaweed" as you suggested.

Is it likely that there are other Royal Navy records for this man somewhere, or is it possible that this is the only record?

matthewj64,

"seaweed" has replied to my request on the other Board but, sadly, he could not help.

Certainly, with your excellent help, we have travelled a long way with Luke BAYCROFT  8)

For the moment,
