George and Sarah Smith (nee Dennis)
« on: Monday 26 November 18 16:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
I'm hoping someone may be able to fill in a few gaps regarding these two people, please.
I have George born about 1831 in Lincoln, and Sarah Dennis born Peterbor. appx 1833.....this info is from the later censuses. I cannot pin them down in the census of 1841,1851 or 1861 but they have children born in Osbaldwick, York .. Emily 1863 and Louisa 1865 before appearing in Kippax in 1871, George shown as a coal merchant and two more children Mary, 4 and Harry 1. By 1881 George is now a Gamekeeper at Spofforth cum Stockeld near Harrogate. 1891 George is still at Spofforth as a fishmonger.
My information is that they both died in the area, George c. 1906, Sarah c. 1909, both registered at Wetherby.
Can anyone please help out with anything on either George or Sarah before 1871, any parents, D.O.B., marriage, siblings, death dates. I realise Smith is very common but I thought that Sarah's surname would have brought more than I have found.
   Any help welcome, thanks

I can only find the 1861 – 1901 census returns that you have, none earlier. You mentioned that the name Dennis came from the later returns but I cannot see this?

I note that George was a fishmonger in Spofforth 1891/1901 so I guess death records below.

George Smith
Birth about 1829
Death 01/1906 Wetherby Yorkshire

Sarah Ann Smith
Birth about 1831
Death 01/1909 Wetherby Yorkshire West Riding

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

If I have the correct family there is George & Sarah Smith in Manchester (both born there), children William born about 1858 & Eleanor 1860. George is a schoolmaster?
