Dorset Army Deserter Frank Foot
« on: Monday 26 November 18 21:45 GMT (UK) »
Frank Foot was born in 1889 at Up Cerne. The family understand that he deserted the army and moved to New Zealand. During WW1 he signed up with the  NZ navy and it understood he fought at the Battle of Jutland. I am trying to prove if he deserted or if it is just a family rumour.

Many thanks for any help,

Mark

There's a Frank Foot, farmhand, the right age on a boat to Brisbane in 1907.

Also a Frank Foot b c1890 travelling in from Auckland in April 1931, returning in July 1931 with ?wife Rosa [I think] Addresses in UK are in Poole &  Longfleet. They potentially originally left in 1919

FindMyPast has an army record for a George Foot, service no. 5135. The year of birth 1883 doesn't "fit" the 1890 birth date of the naval record but looks like the same man?

Many thanks for responding about a George Foot. I'm always interested in Foot's but particularly searching the records of Frank Foot, both army and naval.
The family believe he deserted from the army. Later joined the navy and it is believed he was at the Battle of Jutland.
