There is a William Hide, 57, commercial traveller b North Riding of Yorks in Paddington, Kensington in 1881. RG11/9/119/15.

Also there:

Amelia A Hide, wife, 51, b North Riding
William Hide, son, 27 b Chelsea
Elizabeth Lang*, (married) daughter 25 b Chelsea
Robert Lang, grandson, 8 b Paddington

*Perhaps her husband was the Robert Lang who witnessed John Craven Hide’s marriage?

1861, in Chelsea, shows William (snr)’s birthplace as Ganthorpe, Yorks, & Amelia’s as York.

William Hide, Grocer and tea dealer, address Kensell Town, Middlesex, son of William Hide, Farm Bailiff, married Amelia Ann Hide, dau. of Thomas Hide, Confectioner, on 29/3/1851 York - both shown of full age and one of the witnesses is named Thos. Craven.

Amelia Ann Hide bapt 27 September 1829 at All Saints, Pavement, York - parents Thomas & Frances.

I have a hunch Frances may have been born a Craven.

For whatever reason (possibly due to moving house), the family clearly eluded the enumerator in 1871 and are not recorded.
