Just said to him "Happy Lancashire Day" and asked him to sing his anthem ... guess what? Doesn't know one.

It's to the same tune as "God Save the Queen" with a few alternative lyrics.
"God save our Duke, the Queen !
Long live our noble Duke !
              God save the Queen. "

Yes, The Queen is also The Duke of Lancaster .
When The Royal Toast is proposed ,Lancastrians say :-
“ The  Queen, The Duke of Lancaster.”

As to pelting Yorkshire puddings  with Black puddings- that only goes as far
back as the late 1970’s .
A local retired Fireman became landlord of a pub in Stubbins, just up  the  road  from Ramsbottom ., towards Rossendale
It was called The Corner Pin.
There was a small ledge high on a gable wall of the pub .
The new landlord thought up the idea to court business.
A large pud is placed on the ledge and pelted with black puddings ,the object being to knock off the Yorkshire pudding.
When the pub was closed the event moved to Bridge Street Ramsbottom,
to another pub,The Royal Oak,on Bridge Street.
It is quite an event and The Hairy Bikers took part one year.
Stops the traffic!!
It is no older than late 1970’s .
Viktoria.

Can't find anything as a Lancashire Anthem, certainly nowt as "reight" as "Ilkley Moor" for God's own County. Really sure Lancashire hasn't got one.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Farewell Manchester,a right miserable dirge .
Bonnie Prince Charlie! He stayed in Manchester ., then went on to Derby.

Dirty old town.?
I met my love by the gas works’ gate .
Dreamed a dream by the old canal ,
Kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town ,
Dirty old town.etc

Really just Manchester though.

Manchester Rambler?

I’m a rambler ,a rambler from Manchester way,
I earn all my money the hard working way,
I may be a work slave on Mondays,
But I am a free man on Sundays .etc

That is about the attempt to close the moors to ramblers ,there was famous
‘“ sit in “ on the moors ,when the right to roam was asserted.

I went down to Pomona ,the Ship Canal ,but Cheshire is involved!
I can’t think of one for Lancashire.

People do or did love ‘“Sally”, but again a town not the County.

Eee by gum! Who’d’ a thowt it?
We’s nivver getten oorsen a’nanthum!
Well, it’s a bit late in’th day te start noo ,tha knows.

W’ill  manage .
Pull throo ,same as wiv allus dun!

Viktoria.

"God's Own County" - exactly  :-*  And not entirely sure that those on the "wrong" side of the Pennines could compete.  :-X

I didn't realise at the time, but I was married on Yorkshire Day in 1964, and I have since learned of the correct way to wear the White Rose, depending on which Riding you are associated with.  How wonderful is genealogy.  :D

On the very first "Yorkshire Day" I was handed a white rose by a very good-looking young man! On Leeds Station.

So that's why I didn't recognise Yorkshire Day in 1964 - I was too early (that will make a change)!!

Yes, he explained to me that it was "Yorkshire Day" at the time, I'd never heard of it before, but it was the actual start of it all, apparently, in 1975.

The Corner Pin was the venue of Elbow's first gig, in 1990. Guy Garvey could compose us an anthem.
Friday was also the 5th annual "Buy Nowt" day, an alternative to that American import, Black Friday. I bought nowt all day.

It is now offices , the landlord who thought up the puddings fight was as I said a fireman .
His wife had a sweet shop and little cafe .On the Main Street in Ramsbottom.
When we stopped to enquire about the house we saw in passing , and went to the Estate agents, the vendor was not yet home from work so we went to the little  cafe for tea and toasted tea cakes., to wait.
He was a mad United fan , very jovial and a real character.
Our first taste  of local humour ,we thought It will be alright here!”
And so it has been.
Viktoria .
