Name of Elizabeth's Huband.
« on: Tuesday 27 November 18 21:24 GMT (UK) »
The following extract is from the 1637 will of Jacob du Bois of Canterbury. I'm hoping someone here can help me work out what the name in the middle is. I extract reads

"I doe give and bequeath unto Elizabeth du Bois the wife of..." however I'm not sure of the name of her husband. The first name looks like "Mandory" but I don't think that's right. The surname appears to start with an "R" and looks like it ends "nard" or "nand".

The rest of the Will seems fairly clear to read so it would be great if someone could clarify what this person's name was.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

I think his Christian name could be Mordecay (Mordecai)  :-\

Familysearch has baptisms of a son and daughter to Mordoche Renard or Rainard or Reinard 1619 and 1621 at St Peter Canterbury.

Surname written as Reynard.
Almeroth, Germany (probably Hessen).

Surname written as Reynard.

I would say its written Regnard letter g with typical flat top, compare to y at the end of Mordecay.

Thanks for all those bits of feedback. I've just been looking through some Marriage Contracts in the registers of the Walloon Church in Canterbury and in one I spotted this name:

Mardoche Regnard [Renard]

The Contract is dated 1623 and I think it might be the same name [possibly the same man].

More investigation is needed but I think it may be something to go on.
