Precise address in Lincoln 1871 Census?
« on: Wednesday 28 November 18 09:32 GMT (UK) »
Kind helpers on Rootschat have almost certainly found the William Mitchell who was the father of Jacob Mitchell.
In 1861 William was living on Waterside North, Lincoln. In 1881 Jacob Mitchell was at Wynn’s Passage. Looking at the original census image for this, it seems to have been just off Waterside North.

In 1871 William was in St Swithin’s, Lincoln. I only have the FamilySearch transcript of this. I’d be very grateful if anyone could access the precise address. If it was still Waterside North it would put William and Jacob almost next door and mean that Jacob arrived here between 1871 and 1881 and be pretty significant. William was a widower by 1871. Jacob may have moved to care for his elderly father.

Assuming this is the correct William Mitchell - aged 78 - RG10/3372 folio 101 page 3

Address is Jackson's Court, which is between 33 and 34 Waterside North.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The next address to William is 34 Waterside North, followed by 35. Then Rumbles Court.
No Jacob at those numbers.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thanks for the replies, they are really helpful. William’s age fits perfectly. In 1871 Jacob was in Gosberton, in an area of Lincolnshire (South Holland) that (almost certainly this) William, with son Jacob, was living in in 1841. William was clearly in the same very restricted area of Lincoln city in 1871, now a widower, that he had been in with wife Ann in 1861 (whilst Jacob was still in South Holland, in Algarkirk). Then by 1881 Jacob is living in a location just off Waterside North in the very same area of Lincoln. It seems too much of a link to be coincidence.
