Newcastle has a number of MI books. Thanks to Christine for letting us know that they hold this one. I think will be able to call in next week at some point to check this out.
If there is a grave stone it may not record his occupation but it might give lots of other useful information which might help identification. I once came across a Northumberland MI for a twiglet which recorded the death also of his wife, some children and even father in law. It also recorded that one of his daughters had died in North Shields - quite a number of miles from the churchyard where that grave was. I was able to do much more research just from the info on that grave. I also saw a gravestone a few months back which recorded the accident which had led to the person's death. This was when I was looking for someone else .. but it just shows that sometimes gravestones provide so much useful information.
