Birth of Florence J Woodford NSW

I have been searching for a birth for Florence Julia Woodford and came across 42414/1928which is strange as births are to 1918.

There are 3 entries for Florence J Woodford father Leonard Woodford Mother Jessie Smith  Sydney
and 2 entries for Florence J Smith mother Jessie  Sydney

Marriage 246/1926 Florence Julia Woodford-James Ryan has her age 18 and born Newcastle
Father Leonard Woodford and mother Jessie Smith

Death Florence Julia Ryan 10 May 1988 Wyoming NSW Father Leonard Mother Jessie (Last name unknown) born Newcastle

Why is this birth registered in 1928, is it a baptism, was she in care?  It is strange to me.

Have you checked to see if it is on the ONLINE index under alternative surnames?

If you use the option YES you know the reference number you can search using the reference number and the year to see the summary info indexed, so various surnames, etc...

I will look too.

Hi I did put in the reference no for 42414/1928 and the 5 entries came up.  I have no idea which one I could get if I decide to.

So if you search between 1 Jan 1907 and 31 Jan 1907 you will find her, and that the index refers to 42414/1928.   This is indicating that the birth took place during January 1907 but that the Registry Office did not complete the registration until 1928.  You can also drill down to the exact date in January for her birthdate.   

You could order an official transcription and expect it to include all the margin notes and endorsement notes etc made on that civil registration of the birth.

The same number, giving 5 INDEX entries means there's just ONE registration, but because the indexer was unsure they have provided further info for the INDEX .... so you order by the reference number, and let the Official transcriber know it is there on the index several times.  They are very familiar with that type of entry

   If you use that yes you know the reference number, and you enter 42415/1928 you will find a sibling for your lass      (indexed six times  )

16549/1912
WOODFORD Leonard and SMITH Jessie,
Registered Woollahra. 
That will have the information provided by Leonard and by Jessie about their own origins
