Snelston Bishops Transcripts
« on: Thursday 29 November 18 05:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone, Given the extremely fragmented state of the Snelston PRs, I wonder if anyone has tried to look at the Bishops Transcripts. Are they in a similarly poor state and is it worth trying to use them instead ? I am especially interested in the 17th century. Are they available at DRO ? Any information would be helpful, Many thanks, Liz

Don't know about the state of them, but the BTs for Snelston are held at Stafford Record Office - from 1664 (until 1868 for baptisms and burials, 1838 for marriages).
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you for your reply. I will have to check at Stafford next time I am in England.
Cheers,
Liz
