Black & White Minstrel Show Manchester Grammar School 1920 - 1930s
« on: Thursday 29 November 18 13:58 GMT (UK) »
Some time ago I came across a Programme from a Black & White Minstrel show, I think it was performed at Manchester Grammar school although I might be mistaken as to where it was.  My father was on the Programme, taking part as a teenager.  I didn't make a note of it and now can no longer find it.  I've searched many sites pertaining to Manchester Grammar school to no avail.
Anybody with any ideas where I could track this down?  Any help appreciated.

Probably because it is now considered politically incorrect and racist. That is why you will never find clips or reruns on TV.

Hi, I have some images from a couple of the plays performed at MGS circa 1926 unfortunately B&W minstrel show is not amongst, do you recall the year this play was performed?

Hi - My father was born in 1916 and he was a member of Hugh Oldham Lads Club who collaborated with Manchester Grammar School, so it could have been between from 1927 to 1937, I'm afraid it was a minstrel show but in those days it wasn't something to raise your eyebrows at.  Any help appreciated.

George Mitchel’s B&W Minstrel Show was very popular until the late sixties.

They even had Summer Seasons in the Theatres in our Seaside resorts.

Thankfully good sense & taste won out.

A number of glass plate negatives that I’m digitising at the moment (300+) show everyday life in and around the Manchester area and a good number of them, perhaps 100+ are of the staff and pupils of MGS and of the interior/exterior of the school itself. Amongst the images are plays that were performed by the pupils. This is still work in progress and I hope the URLS below are allowed where you can see some of the finished digitised images.

Hi Whittworth - Thanks very much for sight of your photographs and such good quality too.  Afraid I didn't find anyone I recognised.
