1881? Back Lane West Bromwich. All b Oldbury except where shown

Samuel Brinton    30 - coal miner
Eliza Brinton    30 -  Belper
Stephen Haley    11 - son
John T Brinton    6
Joseph Brinton    3
Lavinia Brinton

Marriage Q4 1874 Dudley    Vol 6c p216
BRINTON    Samuel
BROOKS    Samuel
Early    Emma
Haley    Eliza

The Brinton children appear to have mother's maiden name Healey, so I suspect Steven was illegitimate

What is a marine gatherer ?
In the census posted by Mabel
Eliza is the name of the sister Michael Bs wife is down as Ellen ...
Could he have remarried?

My interest  was raised because I
have some HEALEYs where fathers are missing because at Sea

And some who weren't officially married .

Don't think they are linked to yours Jono
As mostly around Liverpool

Good luck ..it sounds as though they might be complicated .

What is a marine gatherer ?

It's not in my list of Victorian occupations.
Might it have been collecting old rope etc for a marine store dealer? He was a bit far inland to have been harvesting anything from the sea.
