George Speller and Margaret Gray married March qtr 1940, West Ham
In the free index to the 1939 Register there is
Margaret Speller (Gray), born 1920, living in West Ham C.B., Essex.
with Charles Gray and 2 more people, plus 1 officially closed.

That sorts it then  ;)

Actually a quick query about the 1939 register from a seasoned searcher.

As K Garrad says in his response, the 1939 register was continually updated as used by the NHS which I know and have seen.  But in this kind of instance where these twins probably wouldn't be on it as born just slightly too late am I right in thinking that they would never appear on it.  I think if that is the case then we slightly mislead searchers when saying that it is continually updated as some people just won't ever appear on it.

Where would they appear?  The NHS must have kept track of those born after 1939 somehow?

You're right, the register only updates the details of people who were already on it. (I'm sure someone in the know will tell us how the NHS kept track of people who were born later, as well as people who didn't appear on the register for other reasons?)

There's a chance though that these twins do appear on the register, if they were born in August or September and registered in October.

Those of us who were born post-1939 had Identity Cards and these were updated whenever we moved.  I have at least 5 addresses between 1942 and 1945.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Identity cards stopped in early 1950s, I think and there would be Medical cards plus Electoral Registers at 21 yrs. That would be it, would it?

As I wrote earlier, they are with their mother in 1960s in the registers.

I don't know the answer :-\
But could it be that those born after WW2 weren't transcribed by FindMyPast, as they would all have been less than 100 years old?
Did the remit FindMyPast have specifically omit later additions?

Here we go again! ;D
The 1939 National Register was NOT a census!
A census is a snapshot of one night.
The 1939 National Register was continually updated (by the NHS) until the 1990's.

The 1939 Register – when is a ‘census’ not a census?
