Nothing so mysterious I'm afraid - it merely indicates that the individual was still alive, up to the point when the register was no longer updated.

Not quite it means that
1) there was no note on the right hand page that the person had died up to the point when the register was no longer updated.
2) The person redacted had a birth date after 1915 (this date is updated by one year every year).
3) Findmypast have not received proof that the redacted individual has died between 1939 and now.

Cheers

Strange that my uncle who is very much alive and kicking is an open entry yet my Mother is closed
and she passed away in 2003,I also noticed his wife again still a healthy near 80 year old is also open
and on the document her maiden name has been amended to her married name which wasn't until 1959.

There are some 41 million records on the 19349 National Register - there are bound to be mistakes :-\

Also, we keep mentioning that the Register was continually updated, by the NHS, until the 1990's.
So your aunt quite rightly has both her maiden name and married name.

My aunts record is open, and she is very much alive.

She’s been married three times, I’d expect 2 of her married names to show, yet they don’t.

One frustrating entry I have found is a page where everyone just had 4 ditto, 6 ditto and so on for their address yet the top entry on the page was redacted so don't know which street it was.
Campbell, Dunn, Dickson, Fell, Forest, Norie, Pratt, Somerville, Thompson, Tyler among others
