The first and second editions of the six-inch Ordnance Survey maps show Waulkmill as an area, but the 25-inch maps shows North and South Waulkmill separately.

No need to drive 19 miles from Balmedie through Newmachar to get from one to the other. They're barely two miles apart as the crow flies, and five or six miles by road.

North and South Waulkmill are south of the village of Newmachar. From Waulkmill http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1223335 take the farm track east, turn left on http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3976146, and after a couple of miles turn right http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1775740 on a minor road http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3976156 probably signposted to Whitecairns. Another couple of miles and you're at Mains of Whitecairns http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3976166.

Or take the better road http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3974154 west from the Waulkmills, turn right on to the A947, then after about two miles turn right at a crossroads http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2924992. At a T-junction turn right on the B997, then at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1775740 take the minor road http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3976156 on the left, probably signposted to Whitecairns. Another couple of miles and you're at Mains of Whitecairns http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3976166. Slightly longer but easier driving.

And don't trust a satnav!
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
