Cause of death on certificate

I wondered if anyone could work out the cause of death written on the attached death certificate.

Zymotic enteritis.

Zymotic enteritis i.e. Diarrhea!

Zymotic is a 19th C word for infectious.

I thought the second word was Burseritis - looks like a B the first letter. Rather than a E.  but makes sense as in another record, they were noted as dying of . 'wasting'

Zymology pertains to fermentation,you can imagine the contents of the digestive system fermenting,as food breaks down and the ensuing turmoil in the intestines,especially if an abnormal number of bacteria are present as in food past it’s “sell by date”.
It would have been the resulting de-hydration which was so dangerous too.

Did not know it was a baby,so doubly dangerous,it sounds a bit like cholera,
which dehydrates so quickly especially a baby or the very old.
Cholera is connected with human sewage,foul drinking water especially as in the overcrowded towns like Manchester in the developing slums.
Industrial Revolution times. But cholera is prevalent today wherever there is overcrowding and poor sanitation as in refugee camps in the many crisis in Africa we see.

It would perhaps be poor hygiene in the baby’s case, what date?
Whatever,a little life ended.

Hi Viktoria thank you for this information, it is very helpful.  The year was 1903 when he died and it was in a northern town  Hunslet in Leeds West Yorkshire.

Hunslet is not a town in Leeds. It's an area of Leeds and is pretty big but still only an area. If you would like you could  give a name of the child and it'll likely be buried in Hunslet Cemetery and I can go up there this week and get a photo of the headstone.
