Possibilities?
Herbert Perk, 2, in Swindon in 1901
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSKQ-MZG

An admission record,  Lethbridge Road School, Swindon
Bert Twining, born 1898
Might have a (full) date of birth?

It does John  :)
 7 Nov 1898 - father Maurice

Excellent - a perfect match with Gysbertis’ birthdate :)

Driemwtge married more than once:

1931: Leonard Joseph Jackson
1952: Edward George Pape (died 24 March 1953)
1963: Arthur H Brown

... and died as Driemwtge Elizabeth Brown on 11 February 1988.  Birthdate 28 February 1905.

Hi all,
Its getting late at night so I might be missing the connection here but in avm's reply #10
GRO has this as Gysbertis William Vander-Perk, mmn Chequer, Dec qtr 1898 Richmond 2a 422. seems very relevant with a mmn of Chequer.

My connection to the GRO keeps dropping out/freezing or fails to show anything using the above ref.

Can you please say if the above birth regis. could be the reason why Eliza Jane married under the name of Perk as a widow.
Sorry if I'm appearing wanting.

I suggest that Eliza Jane Chequer had Gysbertis/Bert in Richmond in 1898 out of wedlock with a man unknown, but who might be the Dutch gardener Maljaerd van der Perk who seems subsequently to have fathered two children Maljaerd (1902 Kingston) and Driemwtge Elizabeth (1905 Richmond) with an Elizabeth Scott, probably also out of wedlock.

Given that Gysbertis’ birth was registered with the Vander Perk surname it is likely that both parents are named on the registration as though married; you could find out for sure by ordering the relevant pdf/birth certificate.

If this analysis is right then Eliza may well have used the surname Perk and status “widow” for the sake of respectability, being the mother of what was in fact an illegitimate son.

Hi avm,

Thank you for your explanation. I can see where you were going.

It now makes sense and I will see what else comes up.
