I'm trying to trace if my great Uncle's fought in WW1

George William Gray - 22-12-1890

Arthur Cyril Gray - 23-03-1897

They were born in Long Eaton, Derbyshire which I think comes under the Shardlow register

If they fought in WW1, there will be a Medal Index Card for each of them.

These can be seen on Ancestry.

Also at The National Archives:

If you have had a chance to look at the link KGarrad has posted, you will note that a search of George William Gray brings up 9 results and Arthur Cyril Gray brings up none.  Arthur C brings up 10 and George W brings up 39.  In each case, there is nothing to pinpoint them as your men, medal cards have, except with officers and in the odd exceptional case with men, no personal details. I find no records identifiable to those two names but you may not know that 60% or so of Great War service records were lost to bombing in WW2.  If they didn't serve overseas there would be no medal cards.
The absent voters' list for 1918 for the area they lived in may show military details.  There obviously aren't any photos or medals.  If they married or had children during the war, the certificates may show military details.

Difficult with only names to go on.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Ok, thanks - thought I'd give it a try but as I don't have much info there's probably nothing more I can do.
