Joseph P Kearns, arrived Philadelphia, 1908 or 1909
« on: Tuesday 04 December 18 17:37 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please look and tell me the contact person/institution in Ireland and the destination person/institution in Cleveland, Ohio, on the passenger manifest for:

Joseph P Kearns, born 17 March 1890, Co. Wicklow. His Declaration of Intention said he arrived in Philadelphia on August 30, 1908 on the ship Haverford. His petition of naturalization said August 29, 1909, on the same ship, same port.

Thank you
Ed H

Thank you very much. I missed that, either because of the year of birth or the switched order in Christian names, Joseph Patrick vs Patrick Joseph. All of his US records were consistently 1890.
I just found the ship's name yesterday, so that clinches it.
I thought he might have been in an orphanage, so 'Guardian' makes sense, I will look for the guardian in 1911 and for his aunt Miss Eliz Kelly in Cleveland, and possibly as a sister to his mother.
He shows up on the 1910 census in Cleveland in a home for orphan boys, but he is listed as the janitor of the establishment at age 18.

This looks like the same family - 1901 Ireland census - Harman Street Merchants Quay Dublin

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Merchants_Quay/Harman_Street/1299293/

Daughter Martha M Doyle was born Queens Co -    Martha Mary Doyle - 6 October 1879
parents James Doyle and Elizabeth Foley.

Mr Doyle seems like a likely guardian, born in Co. Wicklow as was Joseph P Kearns, and a member of the RI Constabulary in 1911.
Joseph's aunt Elizabeth Kelly was 8 years older than he was, and a servant at 2090 East 96th in Cleveland in 1910.

edited to add
which fits with him being in an orphanage in 1910 'home for working boys'.
