It's 'brick wall' time again 
 
Charles was born 15 May 1879 at 91 Market Street, St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, first son of Charles Paterson and Ann Gowans.

At the time of the 1881 and 1891 UK Census he was residing at 91 Market Street, St Andrews, Fife with his parents, then in the 1901 Census he was a 'Soldier' at Longmoor Barracks, Greatham, Petersfield, Hampshire, England - he had enlisted on 21 Nov 1899 for service as a Sapper (Service No. 4002) in the 60th Field Company of the Royal Engineers but was discharged medically unfit on 13 Apr 1901.

I’ve recently found out that Charles emigrated to Canada (possibly around 1909) and I have his Attestation paper showing he joined the C.E.F. on 3 Jan 1916 and, on the cover page, that he died 2 March 1942 (presumably in Canada).

I'm hopeful that someone can add more for him

Likely him in the 1921 Census in Windsor, Essex County, Ontario (same place as his attestation papers).

Patterson, Charles, Lodger, single, aged 41, b. Scotland, parents b. same, immigrated 1906, Presbyterian, stone cutter (occupation also matches attestation papers).

Living in the household of William Ernest White at 128 Windsor Avenue.

There's a reference on his service record where he received a clothing allowance in March 1935 and that time he was living in Ottawa. Unfortunately the 1942 death records are only available on microfilm from the Ontario Archives and do not form part of Ancestry's collection.

Hi,

There was also a mention in his file of London, Ontario. He did serve in the 99th Batt.
