Sister is named as "friend" in 1881 census?
« on: Wednesday 05 December 18 23:53 GMT (UK) »
My gg grandfather (John Potter) and his parents Robert and Catherine were living/visiting catherine's sister's family in 1881 at 10 Heyworth St, Liverpool.
However, John and his parents are named as "friend, friend's husband and friend's son"? Wondering why this is as they are family?
Also does anyone know why John would be named as 4 years old here even though he was 8 at the time?
Thanks

Maybe Peter Barry did not know how to explain his relationship to Robert, Catherine & John when he completed the census form as Catherine was his wife's sister.

As the original forms completed by the occupiers were destroyed we do not know if age 4 was wrongly completed by Peter Barry or merely mistranscribed by the enumerator.

Are you sure he'ad of house is not on page before
and they are all friends

Or Peter was a friend before he married the sister so that relationship is the most obvious to him.
