Marriage of Farrell Rigney and Ann JANE Scully - Illinois 1894
« on: Thursday 06 December 18 10:36 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any further information on the Marriage of Farrell Rigney and Ann JANE Scully, 29th Nov 1894 in Illinois. Particularly interested if the certificate states where in Ireland Ann JANE Scully is from. I believe she may be related to my Great Grandfather Michael Scully. Thanks in Advance

If nothing does materialize, there is a RAOGK volunteer in Chicago - "I will try to find information regarding Chicago, Illinois birth, marriage, death and obituaries" (eighth on list)

The FIND A GRAVE entry for the son Farrell J Rigney says he was the son of "He was the son of Farrell and Jennie Skelly Rigney" - just slight variation of Scully  ???

Familysearch says it is available from http://cookcountygenealogy.com/ , but when I searched there I didn't find any marriages for 1894, not even for Smith or Jones. Still, the county should have the record and their website should say how to get a copy.

Do you have Jennie's death record? It might give her county of origin.

---------
Jennie Rigney
died 11 January 1907, Cook County

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N7DM-7RH

this one gives the funeral home
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q237-CCMC

but, on the other hand, familysearch might have included the county in their indexing if it was on the original.

-----
And do you have Farrell's naturalization information? This isn't online, but the index card was that says the court, volume #, etc. It might or might not say where exactly either of them were born.

--------
Farrell Rigney
4131 Wallace St
Certificate number or volume and page:
R-46 P-81 Minor, Circuit Court, Cook County, IL
country of birth: Ireland
when born: blank
date and port of arrival: blank
Date of naturalization: December 6, 1893
witness: James Connors, 745 Root Street

-----
All of the records mentioned so far have a 'slim to none' chance of stating an exact place for Jennie in Ireland. I think the best bet would be her death record, but even then it is expecting a lot.

Thank you for all the help. Death Certs that I have seen before in the US have had loads of info so was hoping to find a county of origin or fathers name. I'm not sure RAOGK is but I'll look in to it.

Is it possible that this 1894 marriage was Anne Jane Scully's second time to get hitched? ==>

I assume that Farrell Rigney b abt 1898 is her son. When he gets married, his mother's surname is "White"!: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KFLF-9KD

Everythings possible. I think was hanging my hat on the fact that Ann was originally a Scully as i have a number of DNA connections on Ancestry that I think are close enough that we would share a Great Grandparent. More digging to do methinks.

Working from the assumption that Ann Jane Scully was born sometime in 1866-1872, based upon age given in 1900 census and in 1907 death record.  In the civil birth records there were:

No Ann Jane Scully
1 Ann Scully b. 1871, registered in Tipperary district
18 others with spelling Anne or Anna.
2 named Jane Scully.  One  b. 1868, district Bantry.  The other b. 1867, district Dunshaughlin
No Jennie or Jenny Scully

The Ann Scully record had an image with this info:
b. 25 Dec 1871 at New Palen (Pallen?), father John of New Pallen, mother Ann, (her maiden name unclear.)

Petticrew, Pettigrew, Bedigrew, and all variants.
