Help Please! Marriage John Lang & Bridget Devany 1833
« on: Thursday 06 December 18 15:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Please could anyone help?
I have found a marriage for 2 of my ancestors:

John Lang and Bridget Devany on 10 February 1833. I do not know which church this is from. The only information I have from the register is that it was in Kilmoremoy. Also Bridget Lang is listed on the register as coming from Smashee. Could this be Quignashee?
If anyone has any information regarding the parents of either of these please could you help?
I believe from the UK Census returns that they both listed their DOB as 1813.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Darren

Ask the Moderator to close the other thread....  :o

No need for 2 threads on same people!
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Attached is the image of the location. My first guess was Ballynashee, but that is a long way from Kilmoremoy parish if I'm Googling correctly. I'm definitely not a local.
Maybe it was a local name as well.

Here is a link to the original register to compare the writing

Quignashee makes a lot of sense.

St Muredach's Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killala in Ireland. It is located on the bank of the River Moy in Ballina, County Mayo. It is also the parish church of the parish of Kilmoremoy. Wikipedia
Address: Abbeyhalfquarter, Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland
Opened: 1875
Bishop: John Fleming
Province: Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuam
Diocese: Roman Catholic Diocese of Killala
Groundbreaking: 1827

and besides, it was closer to her townland than St Patrick's.

Known copies of baptisms there don't start until 1823.
https://www.johngrenham.com/records/rc_church.php?county=Mayo&parish=Kilmoremoy&churchid=753

so if you knew the parents' names you might find later children's records, assuming John and Bridget were among the older children in their families, but you won't find John or Bridget's baptism records.

If you look further down the page you can see how this priest writes his Bs, I'd say the place in question starts with a Q badly written in the old fashioned way.
