Wrigley in Delph
« on: Friday 07 December 18 11:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone, I'm trying to confirm I have the correct info for a relative.

I know the following for certain;

ELIZABETH WRIGLEY born between 1816-1821 (depending on which census you read) in Saddleworth, Yorkshire married Jonathan Duckworth in 1850. She had a daughter from a previous marriage called MARY WRIGLEY. In 1851 Jonathan, Elizabeth lived with their children at 100 German Street, St James’ Parish, Oldham (I have this census).

I have located a possible birth certificate for Mary with the following information;

Date and Place of Birth: 13th May 1841, Millgate, Delph
Name: Mary Wrigley, female      Fathers name: Joseph Wrigley
Mothers name: Elizabeth Wrigley, formerly Wrigley
Fathers Profession: Dyer      Informant: Joseph Wrigley - father, Delph
Reported on:   29th May 1841

This matches with the following 1841 census;
Address - Millgate
Joseph Wrigley, Male, born 1816   Yorkshire, England - BOOK KEEPER
Elizabeth Wrigley, Female, born 1816   Yorkshire, England
William Wrigley, Male, born   1839   Yorkshire, England
Mary   Wrigley, Female, born   1841   Yorkshire, England

Does anyone have any idea how I can substantiate the above Census and Birth Certificate?
If it is correct I'm guessing that  Joseph must be deceased by 1850 but can't find any record of this.

Thanks, Luke

a dyer (from a birth cert) does not match with a book-keeper (on census).

May I ask how you know Elizabeth was previously married and that Mary wasn’t an illegitimate child?

On the 1851 census it has two girls other than Mary. Am I correct in thinking that they are Jonathan’s from a previous marriage?

Both the 1851 and 1861 censuses have Mary as born in 1843:

Thank you all for your help her.

The two roles a dyer and book keeper are certainly not one and the same but Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary Wrigley all living at Millgate can't be all that common can it?

Jamjar, that William and Mary do seem to be the correct ones if this is my Mary and Elizabeth. I suppose I just presumed she was widowed really but I dont know for certain. The wedding cert lists Jonathan as widowed (from Miriam Duckworth nee Winterbottom) who died earlier the same year that Jonathon married Elizabeth. The other girls were from Jonathan's first marriage.

I really dont know if the other information is correct, sorry guys
