CaroleW - he was quite a famous footballer in his time, playing for Rangers, Partick Thistle and Queens Park, as well as some English sides.  His father was an eminent doctor in Glasgow.

Would the clubs not have details of his death, even if he wasn't playing for them at that time?

Ie got some informatyion on his career in football, but nothing on his death.  I'm keen to esatblish what he actually did for a living.  He was obviously in sales, but it would be interesting to find out what line he was in and perhaps what company.  The search goes on.

CaroleW - he doesnt!  I am the Club Historian at Rangers and I'm doing some research so that I can write a programme piece about him.

That seems a big jump from his 1901 employment.  I think it may be as well to check that 1900 marriage against what you know of his parents as it may be the wrong person in Dumbarton

Ive discovered he became a farmer at Broadholm farmhouse by the 1911 census.
