My ancestor died in the workhouse?
« on: Friday 07 December 18 17:00 GMT (UK) »
I have found records showing that my ancestor (Peter Schofield) died in a Liverpool workhouse.
Aside from the death record index I have found, there are census' for the years following his death in which his wife (Ellen) is living with their daughter and named a "widow".

Peter was previously working as a cork cutter.

I don't understand why he would have died in the Workhouse?

Can anyone offer any ideas as to why this was the case?

Thanks

You have to remember that the Workhouse may have been the only source of medical attention - so it was possible/probable that he died in the Hospital attached to the Workhouse.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.
