reading and working in a pdf
« on: Friday 07 December 18 17:40 GMT (UK) »
I have had for ages the Parish Reg' of various places

always managed to work with them quite easily.

Just recently swopped or swapped Laptop  and now they dont work.. so checked and NO Adobe reader on this laptop..

attempted to download it and MY Virus checker wont ALLOW it ..

so disable the virus checker long enough to down load..

switch it all back and it still wont work

the files are blocked as they are from another computer the Virus checker is useless....

and I am about to throw the machine... across the room..

all I wanted to do was read an old parish reg...

xin

forgive me.. IF I have asked this a couple of days ago..  I know I was going to... so maybe  ... oh shoot me.

Uninstall the virus checker and get a decent one.
Then you will be able to download Adobe Reader and run all your old PDF files.

You can't do that I am afraid. When you install a program, files are written to various parts of the registry and not simply sitting in an App.

Other pdf readers are available.

My preferred option is PDF-XChange Editor. This is free for personal use, though a lot of the editing features are disabled unless you pay.

Another free option is Sumatra PDF, which is very small and lightweight. It doesn't have as many features, but it might tide you over until you decide on a longer term solution. This also comes in a portable version which doesn't install anything on your computer or write anything to the registry etc. Just download the appropriate file on to a USB stick and run it from there.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson
