1940's Molins machine factory, Ruxley Corner, Sidcup
« on: Friday 07 December 18 18:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi all. Couldn't think where to post this, so, here goes.

Does anyone have information about this wartime factory. The only reference I have found is in the BBC's WW2 People’s War, where they say they made "machines for weighing and packing ammunition, machinery for loading shells, and other items in the munitions field". My mother worked a lathe there but she didn't know what they were making. Any other info would be welcome - photos, I know, are very unlikely but would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It rang a bell, try cigarette machinery with Molins, in a Google search.  They may have diverted for war related business.

The 'Molins Gun' was an auto loading 6 pounder gun mounted on Mosquito 'Tsetse' fighter bomber and elsewhere. Lots of information on this if you google.

Thanks, Ainslie - I knew about the cigarette manufacturing - they adapted for the war effort. They also had a base in Deptford. They produced machinery for making cigarettes, I think.

Thanks, Imber for the pointer. I'll look into the Molins gun - they may have made parts in the Ruxley Corner factory.
