RAF WW2 records abbreviation help please.
« on: Friday 07 December 18 23:22 GMT (UK) »
I have some abbreviations I can't work out in my Grandads Raf services record from WW2.
Please can anyone shed any light on the following?

- 6s of TT HH (9/5/1941)
- 6TTSHH (26/9/1941)
-197 Squadron 3099 S.E (14/9/1943)

Thank you,
-K

You are mixing place and reason for first two.

They are the same place
No.6 S of TT

https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205210097

reason for post was HH or Heaquarters Holding eg not on the establishment of the unit but there as part of the Training Command reserve of manpower.

Last line seems to be a mix of two units (transcription error)
No.197 Squadron - no reasons given so usually a posting to unit establishment - given the earlier TT post probably ground crew first line maintenance.

No.3099 SE (sic) - No.3099 Servicing Echelon. Same job as before only doing this as the unit moved over to field operations following Normandy Landings.

Not sure if the unit has been correctly transcribed

eg for No.3096 SE
