Ffolk family of Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire
« on: Saturday 08 December 18 01:21 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am seeking information on the Ffolk family that apparently originated in Haverfordwest before 1300, and spread out by the 1500's to include Cardigan and Carmarthenshire. The pedigree of this family is found in Volume 1, page 87, of Lewys Dwnn's "Heraldic visitations of Wales and part of the Marches; between the years 1586 and 1613, under the authority of Clarencieux and Norroy, two kings at arms". I am especially interested in finding out information about the "Tomas Ffolk 1591" in that pedigree, as he has been connected by earlier Foulke researchers to the Thomas Fouke of Codnor, Derbyshire, who married Dorothy Cham on Oct. 30, 1616, at the Church of St. Lawrence in Heanor (Heanor parish register). Peter Bartrum also has an abbreviated pedigree of this family (not going as far down as Tomas) in his "Welsh Genealogies", AD 1400-1500, Vol. 5, page 745. Any additional information on Tomas and this Ffolk family would be greatly appreciated, Thank You.

A Foulke family researcher from Somerset has found further references to this Ffolk family, at the online catalogue of the "Pembrokeshire County Council" site.
Ref. No. HBORO/1186 for the Haverfordwest Borough Records, dated "Tuesday the feast of St Petronills the Virgin" in the year 1323, mentions a WILLIAM FOLK, clerk, which shows that this family was using "Folk" as a surname by this time.
Ref. No. HBORO/1175 for the Haverfordwest Borough Records, dated May 31, 1393, mentions as a witness for a burgage (town rental property) grant a THOMAS FOLK, again placing this Folk family in Haverfordwest by the 14th century.
