Baptism for Thomas Finney
« on: Saturday 08 December 18 17:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Thomas Finney was born in May 1886 in Cheadle. He was illegitimate. I currently subscribe to Ancestry only but wonder if someone who has find my past could kindly check for a baptism please?

In 1891, he is living with Hannah Finney and listed as 'son' which is doubtful due to her age. By 1911 though, he is still living with Hannah but this time listed as 'grandson'

Many Thanks
Helen  :)

Sorry, nothing jumping out  :'(

You may have to resort to purchasing the birth certificate to verify the mother - currently £6.00 as a pdf from GRO.  ;)

Yes, I wouldn't hesitate if it was for my own tree but I'm looking for a friend. I don't think she'll want to pay.....never mind!

The other grandsons don’t have a mmn either - I can't see a registration for Charles.
Hannah is unmarried on the censuses so her children are likely to be mmn Finney.
It could be a lot of certificates.
Have you followed the daughters to see if any married?

Yes, there is a lot of illegitimacy doing on. Hannah's children were and also her grandsons. On one census, I forget which, Hannah is with a George Rushton. He is head and she is listed as wife, but the next column says 'unmarried' for both! I've never seen that before! No, I haven't tracked the daughters to see if they married yet but shall do.

In 1891 2192/31

Hannah Fynney and family are in Charles Street.

Free Reg shows this Baptism

6th May 1891 - Private baptism
Abode: Charles Street
Mother Sarah Ann

This may not be your Thomas, especially with the private baptism.

The other grandchildren don’t seem to be there but Hannah’s own children are.
