How did you get St Paul from the FindMyPast baptism record?
When I had a sub, it only said Parish of Thornaby
(Archive reference PR/TT 1/1 Page 96 Archive Teesside Archives)

but on Freereg Sarah Ann SWINEY is recorded as baptised at  St Peter Ad Vincula, Thornaby on Tees. http://www.rootschat.com/links/01n5h/

I don't think it's St Paul's - that detail was added by LDS in their filming.  St Paul's wasn't consecrated until 1858, and the baptisms in this filming start in 1845.

But on second thoughts... I wonder if the same register was used for both?  St Peter's is tiny, and most of the baptisms are for families living in South Stockton, which is where St Paul's is located.

That's what I was wondering when I asked the initial question. With Thornaby on Tees covering both churches, I didn't know if there was just one register mixed, or a separate one for each church, and how you'd tell one from the other if so, assuming they were both just marked Thornaby.

Hi Silverhawk

Nicholas Mushens Swinney and Sarah Ann Ramshaw are my 3 x ggrandparents, via their daughter Margaret Jane. It's too late (or rather early morning :o) but I will pm you tomorrow evening.
I am a bit busy today organising my dad's 90th birthday :D

How are you related to them?
Jenny
Not me I'm afraid. I'm doing this research for a friend of mine who's descended from Nicholas' younger brother, John Reay Swinney.
Ancestral names: Lewis, Watson, Hetherington, Barclay, Clark, Regan, Hunter, Murray, Robson, Todd, Carney, Comerford, Urwin, Rayson, White, Purves, Biggins, Wilson, Gibson, Graham, Curry, Kennedy, Greenlaw, Waldie, Armstrong, Hodgson, Harle, Wild, Monkhouse, Donald, Allen, Bowie, Cowe, Ogilvie, Barnes, Pattinson, Williamson, Hogg, Denholm, Kirkwood and Hewitt

It doesn't look like it's entirely possible to tell, but from where they were living and the fact that St Paul's had opened by then, it's probably more likely that it is St Paul's after all.

In the later registers for St Paul's there is a code for baptisms at Trafalgar St Mission Rooms & St Luke's Mission Church, but nothing so helpful in this one, unfortunately.

I drove past St Paul's just a few hours ago  :)

Sorry for the delay in responding - St Paul, Thornaby

Looking again at the 3 versions of the parish register, it is only one of the two versions filmed by LDS which states St Paul.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
