Eva Tweed, Carterton, Oxon.

Hi, I'm not related to Eva Tweed but I own a Morris motorcar that was registered new to her in 1932 so I'm trying to trace a history for it before the 1970s, which is lacking. I know she was living at Mangapapa Farm which was located opposite to what is now the junction to Butlers Drive, on Black Bourton Road. The area has obviously totally changed in the intervening 86-yrs thanks to the nearby RAF Brize Norton. I know she married a Thomas Grimshaw in 1935 at Witney, Oxon. I've looked online to see if I could find any photos of the house which I believe survived until sometime in the early 1970s, but to no avail. If anyone has any information or pointers I'll be very happy to hear from you. I'm hoping to make a visit to the records office in the future, but it's an awfully long journey to get there so won't be happening for a while.

If she was driving in 1932 she must have been born in the late 1890's or early 1900's

Eva M Tweed married Thomas Grimshaw 1935 but the only Eva M Tweed birth is 1920

Tweed may have been a previous married name.  There are no births registered to Grimshaw/Tweed but births to a second marriage will show the mothers original maiden name

I have found a birth reg and mothers maiden name is Tweet but it is not in Oxfordshire.  Using the birthdates below you can look them up on the 1939 register

She died 3.8.1898 and left a will

"GRIMSHAW - Eva Mary, aged 89. Peacefully on August 3, 1998. Beloved wife of the late Thomas, mother of ____ and granma to _____ and _______. Will be sadly missed. Funeral service at Eastbourne Crematorium ..."

The name of the child born to the marriage is not redacted on the 1939 register but no death found so name cannot be mentioned

Thanks very much for the eye-opening information, it's very helpful. I have an unbroken line of previous owners going back to the 1970s, the first of which was living in Peacehaven, which is just along the coast from Eastbourne. I can only assume the car made its way from Oxfordshire to Eastbourne with Eva when she moved there with Thomas. If she was originally from the Eastbourne area I guess she moved away to Carterton and returned after she married. I'm going to focus my online research there today. Thanks again.

1939 details cannot be given here but suggest you look at the 1939 entry for Herbert Tweed b 1884 living in Oxford
