Wow! That's just answered the question of where did the name of Mangapapa Farm originate from. Having discovered very early on in my research that Mangapapa is an area of Gisborne located on North Island, New Zealand, I can now say the Tweed family gave it the name. I know Carterton was created as a means of allowing individuals and families to farm on a small scale (smallholding), in the late 19thC and early 20thC. Thanks very much.  :)

If I'd seen this earlier you would have had your answer!  Years ago (1970s) I lived in the Mangapapa area of Gisborne.  My son was born there :D

Hi, yeah I knew Mangapapa is a settlement in NZ, but I didn't know why the smallholding in Carterton was named after it. Knowing the Tweed family had lived there before moving back to the UK and taking a plot of land off Black Bourton Rd in Carterton, I now know why the name was used.  :)
