Agnes Carlyle of Middlebie 1785-1831
« on: Saturday 08 December 18 22:43 GMT (UK) »
Looking to take this family line back another generation. Any help would be appreciated.

To date Agnes Carlyle, born C1785 and died 28 May 1831 at Middliebie ( information taken from a photograph of a Headstone in The Middlebie Churchyard with several other family members on the  headstone mentioned.
The inscription in part relating to Agnes  reads "ALSO AGNES CARLYLE  HIS SECOND WIFE WHO DIED  THERE 28th  MAY 1831. AGED 46 YEARS "

As the headstone is covered in moss the inscription can be hard to read but am confident this is a correct recording of the date.

A record on Scotlands people has been connected to Agnes Carlyle on a tree shared on a popular website but I am having trouble connecting the dates to the Person and the person to the dates.

It suggests the record is for a birth of an Agnes Carlyle born to Agnes Reid and Robert Carlyle.
Agnes, daughter of Robert Carlyle and Agnes Reid at ?(illegible) was baptised Aug 1st 1782. Troqueer.

Is this the same Agnes Carlyle? Look forward to any of your shared thoughts please to help me move forward.

The record on SP that you mention, the only other two in Scotland both 1790.
Below seems a possibility given the location and death age not always accurate.

CARLYLE   AGNES   ROBERT CARLYLE/AGNES REID    01/08/1782   Troqueer

Only two marriages for Agnes in Dumfriesshire.

CARLYLE   AGNES   WALTER JOHNSTONE   01/09/1806   Tundergarth
CARLYLE   AGNES   THOMAS CARLYLE   12/01/1821   St Mungo

No children born in Dumfriesshire to either of the above.

Plenty of Carlyle’s at Middlebie on the 1841 census.

No death records on SP for Middlebie.

Hi did Agnes have any children as sometimes their names can offer clues to their grandparents
Also not all records of baptisms have survived or were recorded so if you find 3 Agnes baptised there could be 2 more whose you can not find

Yes this is the Headstone and the information was  actually taken from a copy of a photo shared from a relative when they visited the churchyard some years ago now. So same same photograph.
