I’ve seen them in the registers. I think that the latter, if descendants of the same family, live at the same farm my family once occupied. I think that there is possibly even a distant Abel connection between both.

Hydes Pasture? I’d never heard of it, but just looked it up. Seems that it is dangerously close to Nun... (can’t even bring myself to type the rest!). I’m sure my family never ventured there. They did go to Atherstone, it seems: a bit more up-market maybe (I have never been to Atherstone, but I did once work with folk from Nun... and was always ribbing them about it.  :D :D). My tribe, lots of them, are sleeping the big sleep in Shenton. One of the farms they once had is a lovely old place in the middle (Clarke’s now). Hopefully my DNA would match plenty of bones in the churchyard.

Reading that twice,  as it was a little more for me to comprehend than normal..

Atherstone the Hat town

No need to Frown in Atherstone Town,
Cos friends are all around
They stand and chat and slap your back
then say Hi good day and walk away
too busy for a polite goodbye  -

I used to stand Market and this little anecdote was
popular amongst a couple of us traders many moons ago..

As for Nun..  eaton   I have rellies that stepped foot in that area too..

and came out smiling :)

so  alls good

But Shenton of course is lovely.

I will find my family to show you

I just remembered   I have been to that Church yard and there are some very 'illustrious' Yorkes buried there

who I may well be related to as per:

Thanks xin, this is interesting. Joseph Lea was then occupying what is now Stud Farm, a lovely old building, now rented by the Clarke family, I think. It is almost certainly where my gggg g/f died. (The village etc. is still a privately owned estate, which is why it has to some extent avoided the C20th). At the start of the C19th my family farmed more than half of the estate land and were quite well off (all downhill since!) and I’m almost certain that my gg g/f was born in the nice half-timbered cottage next to the church. I’ll check the headstone’s in Nichols’ “Leicestershire”. I have some really nice slates under the big cedar, including one of 1722.

Yes  it is interesting..

For years I traced the Clarke line  and could not find anyone above Robert..  but EVENTUALLY did :)  and they sure had moved around (although NOT out of the country as some believe)

I found a Will and they owned land and houses galore then... but nothing Now. ho hum

I wonder if the Clarkes now renting the farm are related to my Clarkes from way back when......
will have to check it out.
