Ahoy sailors
« on: Monday 10 December 18 13:57 GMT (UK) »
Just watching, thanks to a feed on Facebook, the Queen Elizabeth arriving in Portsmouth.  Some sailors have caps with straps and some don't. Why?  I'm not from a service family so am curious; guessing it is to do with their rank.  :-\

Do you mean chin straps.  Stops caps blowing away on a windy deck.

Yes, chin straps; I was curious about a small group standing together.....some with straps, some not. They were not on the open deck but a small raised area.
