any ideas of a stuff up with using ancestry
« on: Monday 10 December 18 16:56 GMT (UK) »
Ive just stuffed up...

I was looking for a few names in ancestry, and also had in my mind someone elses tree that I was helping with... anyhow.. I then after talkign to them... looked back at my tree and saw some names I didnt recognise (as they were knew lines I was searching) and.. i thought i must have added My friends names in by accident... so deleted them...

then realised no, these were names from my tree that id put in a few days ago...

Now ive lost them anc cant track back how they are connected to my tree!!!

Im soooo annoyed with myself... any ideas?

I don't understand, really. When you researched these people, you must have had some notes, census records or even certificates. Can't you just use these to put the people back on the tree?

Long walks, cold showers and plenty of roughage in your diet - it won't bring them back, but it will give you something else to think about.

Actually Kiltpin's suggestion is sensible. Except at this time of year, if you live in the Northern hemisphere, substitute warm shower. Go Christmas shopping too -  the eureka moment will probably happen when you're queueing to pay. Carry a notepad.

Yes -- love Kiltpins ideas

but SURELY --- you gained / acquired the info from somewhere?
disc.. anc...FindMyPast.. somewhere.. it will still be there unless you deleted that.

sit and think a while and check all your folders and The downloads folder on your pc..

If I download anything from FindMyPast or anywhere it automatically goes into my downloads folder even tho I make a.n. other copy somewhere else.

It doesn't help, but I did the same thing.....

I've been trying to work out, with a DNA match, where our connection is.

She said - ooh, I can see you have a [surname] on your tree, so do I, perhaps that's our link.

It didn't ring a bell with me, so I looked up the [surname] and found a whole little family under that name, with a couple of censuses attached and everything.

They weren't attached to anything else, or anyone else, and I can't remember a) who they were b) when I was looking for them and c) why they're a little unattached sprig on my tree.

Doh.

Like you, I was a bit doubtful whether I should delete them in case I subsequently found where they fitted.......
