Comments please? No name, probably Stocksbridge WRY

I'd love your views on this. It was among family photos, no names, taken in a Blackpool studio in about 1923/4 (dated from trade directories). I've had this on my local Facebook history forum but no one recognises them. I'm just interested in the pose... He looks like a gangster with his moll, and a lot of people commented that the man should be stood up. Was this a normal pose? We have other family photos taken at this studio.. Same chair and background but none staged like this.

Very typical dress style of the late war years - early 20's.
Looks like a wedding photo.

I would search Marriages 1921-1926 in Wortley Reg District on FreeBMD and see if anything matches someone in your Tree.

I see you have several Family names that were in Stockbridge.

Trish :)

The pinstripe suit does look very "gangster" but indeed it is a quite popular style of the day. It was expanded out and made baggier to become the zoot suit in the 1940s. Thanks to Hollywood, both styles are associated with old school mafia and gangsters of the era.

It'd be hard to say this is a wedding photo. Perhaps taken at a wedding, but neither wear a ring and she wears gloves. I'd be more willing to say it's relatives/close friends at such an event. Outside chance the two may be brother & sister as they do share similar features.

My two cents.

Dr. Dude
I just like to do photo restores.

It wasn't the norm for men to wear wedding rings & a close relative or friend wouldn't have been posed like this, this is a lot more personal.

To me it just doesn't seem like a wedding photo. The clothes/hat seem inappropriate for a wedding, the pose seems wrong, the whole composition seems more social than matrimonial.

But thats my 2 cents.
I just like to do photo restores.

What a lovely photo....I would agree that this is a wedding photo, the couple are very stylishly dressed and the intimate pose suggests to me that they are a newly married couple.

And isn’t that a flower next to his handkerchief?

Yes it's a double corsage, if he was a wedding guest it would be a buttonhole.
