Thank you treetotal.  Yes I think that's about the right date, much earlier than I'd originally thought.  I find it very hard to judge how old people are from these old photographs.  My great grandfather far right was born in 1886.  Walt senior in 1862.  All the young men were born in the 1880s, Herman Elliot (back right) born 1888.  Guy sat on chair was the youngest, born 1889.
