David and Elizabeth's son John was born in 1838 according to his marriage and death certificates, both Australian certs.

I don't see any entry in the probable  parish registers  for a baptism for John with those parents around then. It might be that they were non-conformist.

The registration districts for that area would be either Oswestry or Corwen.

The only one showing is :

John Davies, Corwen, Dec quarter, 1839, vol 27, page 146, mothers mn Davies.

Do you have any information about the date of his arrival in Australia?

I think 1854 or 1856. Those are the two that work with, years in colony ( given on the death cert) and the correct age and name in the shipping lists.

Thank you for helping.

I keep coming back to this entry on the 1841 census in Llangadwaladr:

HO107
Piece - 1399
book - 9
Folio - 8
Page - 10

It doesn't totally fit but it might be worth investigating - John might have changed his name from Evan or one of the others.

Hi definitely worth looking into. I should have added that John (1838) was born Llanrhaidr (sp) ym
but that could mean parish or town. Llangadwaladr was at one time in that parish hence the interest.

If he was born there after Sept 1837, his birth would be registered in the Llanfyllin registration district. There are quite a few in the 1838 +/- 1 but none with mmn Davies. One is late 1840 though. Also, there are a couple of illegitimate registrations.  Not all births were registered in this early period. I did a broad search on parish baptisms but nothing stood out.

Can you give me details of his arrival or a link to it, please. Also, any info about his time in Australia (again, or links). I have world access on various sites.

I will do you a time line for him. I will have to look up dates so they are not just off the top of my head.

Thanks for the timeline info. I've not found any  likely immigrant listings other than the ones you mention.

I have found this family on the 1841, who might be worth following up:

Pen y Bryn Mawr, Llanrhaeadr YM, Montgomeryshire

John Davies, 65, Ag Lab
David , 25, Ag Lab
John , 3,
David, 2
Elizabeth, 1

All b. Montgomeryshire apart from David senior.

The entry is split over two pages - John, jnr, is on
HO107 Piece 1435 Book 6 Folio 42 Page 11

My theory, for what it's worth. is that Elizabeth died after the birth of Elizabeth, jnr.

I'll check the parish records for burials and births for this family.
