My try.
Youngtug, my restore of your great grandmother's face is pure restore, but as the image of your great grandfather was so badly damaged my restore of him relies partly on features borrowed from your picture of him as a younger man.
Cheers,
Peter

Amended original comment not relevant
"George HOOD of Selby" Before 1812?

Born about 1785 (Yorkshire per 1841 Census)

Married Sarah RUSSELL at Selby 1815 newspaper - "both of that place".

Buried in the Quaker Burial Ground at Selby as "Not in Membership" in 1845, aged 60 years.

George HOOD of Selby was refused Membership of the Quakers in 1836.

Elected Overseer of the Poor of Selby in 1838.

Had both known (Selby) and unknown (some not stated 1846) property interests.

Possible (but unknown) links to COOK and/or PEARSON names.

Interesting,  in the past I have been asked to scan photos on this board in colour mode. Will give it a try.

No.

Never scan in grey scale. You lose a lot of information.

YT - it's still very small. With this size of original, you need to either scan at as high a dpi as your scanner will allow (I've gone up to 48000) or, if you have the facility, scan it at a larger dimension size. I think this is only 350 -ish wide.

Also, save as jpg, without compression. png will keep the info but takes a lots of kb to do it.
